FAQ
How do I find and borrow library items?
The Library holds a wide range of resources including books, journals, films, music, maps, theses and government publications. Some are available online, some can be borrowed, while others are for use within the Library only.
Find items by searching the Library collection. Once you have found an item and identified the Library:
- Locate the item on the library shelves by the location level and item number.
- The item number tells you where physical copies are located on the shelf.
- Signs at the end of each shelving bay show which numbers are found in that bay.
- Locate collection areas on the Main and Law Library building maps with the mobile directory.
- If an item is showing as available on the Library website but you cannot find it on the shelves, contact us.
Borrow with your own UNSW ID or Library membership card using the self-check machines near the Library entrance.
- You must have valid identification to borrow items.
- Check the return date and keep your due date receipt email as a reminder.
- Some course-specific items are in the High Use Collection (HUC) or on the shelves as Short Loan (7 day) items.
- We encourage all clients to check your myLibrary account or Uni-Verse app on a regular basis. Ensure that you are aware of any changes to your due dates.
If you work or study off campus or are registered with Equitable Learning Services, you can register as an off-campus borrower.
UNSW staff and students can request items that are on loan to someone else, in Library Storage, in Paddington Storage or at another UNSW campus library.
If the Library does not have an item you need, you may be able to borrow from another Library and request an interlibrary loan.
