FAQ

How do I find and borrow library items?

The Library holds a wide range of resources including books, journals, films, music, maps, theses and government publications. Some are available online, some can be borrowed, while others are for use within the Library only.

Find items by searching the Library collection. Once you have found an item, locate it on the library shelves by the Library name, level and item number. The item number tells you where print copies are located on the shelf. Signs at the end of each shelving bay show which numbers are found in that bay.

Borrow with your own UNSW ID or Library membership card using the self-check machines near the Library entrance - you must have valid identification to borrow items.

Some course specific materials are held in the High Use Collection (HUC) or classified as high demand and can be borrowed as short loans.

If an item is showing as available on the Library website but you cannot find it on the shelves, contact the Library.

UNSW staff and students can request items that are on loan to someone else, in Library Storage, in Paddington Storage or at another UNSW campus library.

If you work or study off campus or are registered with Equitable Learning Services, you can register as an off-campus borrower.

If the Library does not have an item you need, you may be able to request an interlibrary loan.
