I am a Higher Degree Research candidate. Who owns the copyright and Intellectual Property in my thesis?
In most cases Higher Degree Research candidates own the copyright and intellectual property in their theses. The University does not assert ownership of intellectual property created by students except in specific circumstances. These exceptions are outlined in Section 2.2 of the UNSW Intellectual Property Policy.
Different rules apply to research outputs created by UNSW academic, professional, technical, and administrative staff and affiliates. See the UNSW Library Copyright guide for more information.
